The identity of the deceased, however, could not be known immediately.
The injured Mohammad Shakeel, 17, Nayan Islam, 23, Sadek Hossain, 38, Abu Taleb, 40, Mohammad Rajib, 28, Abdul Ghafoor, 40, Mo Ahid, 40, Shah Alam, 70, Mehdi Hasan Omar, 15, Rafsan, 15, and Mofizur Rahman, 54, are being treated at the Banshkhali Upazila Health Complex.
Tofayel Ahmed, Officer-in-charge (OC) of Banshkhali police station, said that the fire originated from a pile of garbage behind a shop in the market at around 10:30am on Thursday and engulfed the neighbouring shop and garage.
Locals while trying to extinguish the fire, a gas cylinder in the garage exploded, leaving at least fifteen people. They were rushed to the health complex, where one person died.
Meanwhile, Azadul Islam, an official from Banshkhali fire service, said locals had already doused the fire before their firefighters reached the spot.
