Road mishaps claim eight lives in five districts

Eight people including a minor child have been killed in separate road accidents in five districts- Sylhet, Satkhira, Rajshahi, Jamalpur and Gopalganj, in two days.

SYLHET: The death toll in the road accident in Jaintapur Upazila of the district has risen to three as another injured succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Pavel, 18, son Abdul Hannan, a resident of the upazila. He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital early Wednesday.

Earlier, two youths were killed and two others injured as a pickup van rammed two motorbikes on the Sylhet-Tamabil highway in the upazila on Tuesday night.

The deceased were Shihab Uddin, 22, son of Alauddin, a resident of Mokambari area under the upazila, and Faisal Reza, 19, son of M Liaquat Ali.

The accident took place at around 10 pm on Tuesday in front of Jaflong Valley Boarding School of the upazila.

Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jaintiapur Police Station (PS) Tajul Islam said the accident occurred when the Naljuri-bound pickup van hits two motorcycles in the area at around 10 pm, which left four motorcycle riders critically injured.

The injured were taken to Jaintiapur Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Shihab Uddin dead.

Later on, the rest three injured were shifted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for better treatment, where Faisal Reza succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment, said the OC.

However, necessary steps would be taken in this regard, the OC added.

RAJSHAHI: An SSC examinee was killed and another injured in a road accident in Durgapur Upazila of the district on Wednesday morning.

The accident took place at around 9:30 am in front of Anolia Primary School in the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Shahriar Hasan, 17, son of Abdul Wahed, a resident of Palsha Village under the upazila.

According to local sources, Shahria along with a friend was heading towards to their examination hall riding on a bike. On the way, they fell on the middle of the road as he lost control over the steering of the bike. At that time, a speedy truck ran over the duo, which left Shahriar dead on the spot and his friend critically injured.

Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Durgapur PS Nasir Hossain confirmed the incident, adding that efforts are going on to identify the truck and legal actions would be taken in this regard.

SARISHABARI, JAMALPUR: A minor child was killed after being crushed under the wheels of a battery-operated auto-rickshaw in Sarishabari Upazila of the district on Wednesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Shahadat Hossain, 8, son of Ranju Mia, a resident of Nagda Village under the upazila. He was a student of a local madrasa.

According to local sources, an auto-rickshaw ran over the child on the way to his madrasa, leaving him dead on the spot.

Sarishabari PS OC Mushfiqur Rahman said, being informed, police visited the scene.

However, legal actions will be taken if the deceaseds family members file a complaint in this regard, the OC added.

SATKHIRA: Two friends were killed and another was injured in a road accident in Ashashuni Upazila of the district on Wednesday.

The accident took place in Kadakati Thapua area of Asashuni Upazila early in the morning.

The deceased were identified as Nayan Ghosh, 18, son of Niranjan Ghosh, hailed from Tarali Village under Kaliganj Upazila in the district, and William, 18, son of Jagannath Ghosh of the same village.

Dargahpur Union Parishad Panel Chairman Asaduzzaman Mukul said the three friends were returning home from Jethua area riding on a motorcycle in the morning.

When they reached Kadakati Thapua area, the motorcycle collided with the pillar of an under construction bridge.

They fell into Thapua Canal along with the motorcycle. The two died on the spot and another injured at that time.

Being informed, police recovered the bodies from the scene.

Asashuni PS SI Abbas confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this regard.

GOPALGANJ: A driver of a human hauler (nosimon) was killed in a road accident in Muksudpur Upazila of the district on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Rijaul Fakir, 30, son of Icha Fakir, a resident of Gajaria Village under Nagarkanda PS in the upazila.

According to the locals, a speedy truck from Khandarpara rammed into Riajuls three-wheeler on the Nishatola-Bolnarayan road coming from the opposite direction in the afternoon, which left him dead on the spot.

Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
The law enforcers have seized the truck, however, its driver managed to flee the scene.

Muksudpur PS OC Mohammad Ashraful Alam confirmed the incident, adding that police are trying to arrest the truck driver and legal action would be taken in this regard.
