The Supreme Court (SC) has set Tuesday (March 12) to hold a hearing on a petition filed against the High Court order that that said primary and secondary schools would remain closed during the month of Ramadan.
Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division of the SC Justice M Enayetur Rahim on Monday passed the order, maintaining the stay imposed by the High Court (HC), after hearing a petition filed by the state challenging the HC order.
The chamber judge sent the petition to its full bench for hearing the matter on Tuesday.
Attorney General AM Amin Uddin represented the state.
On Sunday, the HC ordered the closure of primary and secondary schools across the country during Ramadan.
A HC bench of Justice KM Kamrul Kader and Justice Khizir Hayat Lizu stayed for two months a government decision to keep schools open for certain period during Ramadan.
On February 25, Supreme Court lawyer Md Elias Ali Mondal filed a writ petition with the HC challenging the legality of the government's decision to keep primary and secondary schools open during Ramadan.
Earlier, in a notification, the education ministry said regular academic activities at secondary schools and colleges will continue for 15 days from March 11 to 25 and from March 10 to 24, respectively.
On the other hand, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education said that classes will be held in primary schools for the first 10 days of Ramadan.
