Child burns to death during Puja

A three-year-old child, who sustained burn injuries after her saree caught fire from the lamp her family members had lit during Puja, died at a hospital in Joypurhat Sadar upazila on Friday morning.

The victim was Arko, 3, daughter of Shayan Mondal, a resident of Parulia village under Mohammadabad union of the upazila.
According to the deceased family members, Arko had been wearing a saree while her parents were performing puja in the house. At one stage, when her mother went to the kitchen, Arko's saree catches fire from a lamp, leaving her critically injured.

Family members rescued her and took to Joypurhat General Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries around 9am on Friday while undergoing treatment.

Joypurhat Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Humayun Kabir confirmed the death matter.
