Zimbabwe to arrive in Dhaka on April 28 to play five T20i matches

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Saturday announced the itinerary for Zimbabwes tour in May 2024. The Zimbabweans will arrive on April 28 to play a five-match T20 international series.

The two sides last played a bilateral T20i series in 2022 in Harare, where Bangladesh lost the series 2-1. However, in their 20 meetings of the format so far, the Tigers emerged victorious on 13 occasions against seven defeats.

The Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram will host the first three games of the series, while the fourth and fifth matches will be held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.

The first two matches are slated for May 3 and 5, starting at 6:00 pm (BST). The third T20i match will begin at 3:00 pm (BST) on May 7.

The fourth clash of the series will begin at 6:00 pm on May 10, while the last match of the series will start at 10:00 am on May 12.

Considering the varied time zone in West Indies and USA, the BCB arranged the matches at different times of the day.

Following this series, the Tigers will receive the hospitality of the USA for a three-match T20 series.

The matches are scheduled for May 21, 23 and 25 respectively, and will all take place at the Prairie View Cricket Complex (PVCC) in Houston, Texas.

The T20 World Cup will be held between June 1 and 29. The Tigers are placed in Group-D of the 20-nation event. They will face Sri Lanka, South Africa, Netherlands and Nepal.

The first two matches will be played in the USA on June 7 and 10, while the subsequent two matches are scheduled in the West Indies on June 13 and 16.

While Bangladesh has ample experience playing in the West Indies, they have relatively less exposure to playing in the USA.

Therefore, organising this series will provide them with invaluable playing experience and help them adjust to the conditions.

However, the BCB and Zimbabwe Cricket have agreed to move the two-match bilateral Test series in Bangladesh, originally scheduled for this year, to 2025. This will be the first Test series between the sides since 2018.
