Child burnt during Puja in Joypurhat

JOYPURHAT, Mar 18: A minor girl, who sustained burn injuries after her saree caught fire from the lamp her family members had lit during Puja, died at a hospital in the district town on Friday morning.

The deceased was identified as Arko, 3, daughter of Shayan Mondal, a resident of Parulia Village under Mohammadabad Union in Sadar Upazila.
According to the deceaseds family members, Arko had been wearing a saree while her parents were performing Puja in the house. At one stage, when her mother went to the kitchen, Arkos saree caught fire from a lamp accidentally, which left her critically injured.

The family members rescued her and took to Joypurhat 250-bed General Hospital, where she died at around 9:30 am on Friday while undergoing treatment.

Officer-in-Charge of Joypurhat Sadar Police Station Humayun Kabir confirmed the incident.
