The 94th syndicate meeting of Jagannath University (JnU) on Thursday decided to suspend accused faculty member and one other reassigned amidst allegations of sexual harassment and threats to student Kazi Farzana Mim of the Film and Television Department.
Registrar Dr Ainul Islam confirmed the decisions, stating that Prof Abu Shahed Emon, accused of sexual harassment, has been
temporarily removed, while Assoc Prof Junayed Ahmed Halim, the other accused, has been removed from the chairmans position.
Earlier on Monday (March 18) afternoon, Kazi Farzana Mim brought allegations of sexual harassment against Abu Sahed Emon, a teacher in the Film and Television Department of Jagannath University, to the DB office. She also alleged various forms of threats to her life. She went to DB to ensure her safety.
Recently, the case of the death of student Fairuz Sadaf at Jagannath University, her classmate Amman Siddique and assistant proctor Deen Islam are being sent to jail after the end of their remand by a Dhaka court.
The death of Fairuz Sadaf Abantika and the sexual harassment of Kazi Farzana Mim has sparked controversy nationwide and has created various disturbances at JnU campus.
