A man was beaten to death allegedly by his nephew over a family dispute at Mohespur upazila in Jhenaidah district on Friday.

The deceased was Sha Alom, 48, son of Abdul Rakib, a resident of Fatipur village in the upazila.

Sohidul Islam, a neighbour of the deceased, said there was a dispute between Shah Alom and his nephew Razu for a long time over a family matter.

As a sequel to that, Razu struck on Shah Alam’s head with a baton on his way to Moheshpur Bazar following an altercation in the morning, leaving him critically injured.
He was later rescued by locals but succumbed to his injuries on the way to a hospital.

On information, police rushed to the spot and arrested accused Razu.

Meanwhile, preparation was underway to send the body to a hospital morgue, said Mohespur Police Station officer-in-charge Ismail Hossain.
