165 shops gutted in N'ganj’s Kacha Bazar fire

A devastating fire that broke at Puratan Bazar, also known as Kacha Bazar, beside Gausia Market in Narayanganj's Rupganj upazila early Sunday, burnt down a total of 165 shops.

Ten fire-fighting units managed to bring the fire under control around 5:45am.
Eyewitnesses said they saw the fire at first at a shop in the Kacha Bazar portion. Later, the blaze spread soon to others shops.

Shahjahan Sikder, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD-media cell) headquarters, said the blaze originated at the Kacha Bazar around 3:35 am.

On information, eight firefighting units rushed to the spot and brought the flames under control around 5:45 am, he informed.

The actual reason behind the fire and extent of damages caused could not be known immediately, he added.
