The members of Coast Guard seized 3,80,000 meters of banned nets in raids in Barguna's Patharghata upazila.
The market value of these illegal fence nets is estimated to be around Tk 5,70,00,000. Later, the nets were destroyed by setting fire.
The operation was conducted on Saturday (March 23) from 8:30 pm to Sunday 12:00 am in different areas of the Baleshwar and Bishkhali River in Patharghata.
According to Coast Guard sources, a raid was conducted in different areas of the rivers in Patharghata under the leadership of BCG Station Contingent Commander M Firozzaman under South Zone of Patharghata Coast Guard.
At that time, the banned nets used for fishing were seized from Patharghata launch ghat, Taltala, Charduani, Tengra, Hajirkhal, Ruhita, Padma, Azir Khal, Haringhata, Badurtala areas.
Patharghata Coast Guard South Zone Media Officer HMM Harun Or Rashid said that no one could be arrested as the fishermen using banned nets fled after sensing the presence of the Coast Guard.
Patharghata Upazila Fisheries Officer Jayant Kumar Apu said such operations are continuing in the Bishkhali and Baleshwar rivers.
