Jahangirnagar University Teachers Association (JUTA) protested the decision of the mandatory inclusion of public university teachers in the universal pension scheme.

The teachers body demanded cancellation of the government decision on Saturday following the issuance of a notification by the Finance Division in this regard.

The notification stated that all employees joining autonomous, self-regulated, state-run, statutory organizations or their affiliates from July 1 will be brought out under the Universal Pension Scheme.

A statement issued by its President Prof Md Motaher Hossain and Secretary Prof Shahed Rana, branded the finance divisions announcement unacceptable, citing the exclusion of government officials from the scheme.

"The notification appeared discriminating, disappointing, and unacceptable. It excludes government officials.

Furthermore, the inclusion of public university teachers has adversely affected the university teaching profession," according to the statement.

The association said that teachers at universities will be dissatisfied with the decision, significantly impacting their mental and financial well-being.

JUTA leaders urged the government to immediately withdraw this notification and remove the frustration and dissatisfaction that erupted among the university teachers for this new decision.

The leaders also warned a tougher movement will be initiated if the government does not withdraw the decision.
