Five killed in road accidents in 3 dists

 At least five people including a police constable were killed and several others were injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Chattogram and Dinajpur.

Two siblings were killed after a pick-up van hit their rickshaw from behind at Mirpur-1 in the capital on Sunday morning.
The deceased were identified as Mim Aktar, 22, daughter of Nur Mohammad, and her younger brother Alif. They were the residents of Gabtoli City Colony.

Sub-inspector of Shah Ali Police Station Khondakar Moniruzzaman said Mim and Alif along with their mother on a rickshaw were going to Muktijoddha Super Market for Eid shopping .

When they reached at Mirpur-1, a pick-van hit their rickshaw from behind at around 10am, leaving the duo dead on the spot, the official said, adding that mother of the victims sustained minor injuries as she fell other side of the road.

Moniruzzaman said the bodies were kept at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Police have seized the pick-up van and arrested the helper but driver of the van managed to flee from the spot.
 
Our Chattogram Correspondent added that at least two people were killed on the spot when a pick-up van rammed a standing car beside Nizampur Ridwan Filling Station on Dhaka-Chattogram highway under Mirsarai upazila of the district on Sunday.

The victims were identified as van driver Masum Billah, 40, and car passenger Abdul Rahim, 42.

Police quoting local people said, a goods laden pick-up van hit the car standing on the side of the road beside Nizampur Ridwan Filling Station on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway under Mirsarai upazila.  

Sub-Inspector (SI) Alamgir Hossain of Kumira Highway Police Station said two people died in the accident at Nizampur area. The bodies were recovered and kept at the police station. Family members of the deceased have been informed. Police seized both the vehicles.

Our Dinajpur Correspondent added that a police constable was killed in a road accident on the Parbatipur-Phulbari highway at Parbatipur upazila in Dinajpur district on Saturday night.

The accident took place around 11pm at Chandapara area under the upazila.

Deceased Hridoy Roy, a constable of Dinajpur Police Lines, was heading towards Parbatiput from Phulbari riding on a motorcycle. On the way, a speeding truck ran over his motorcycle at Chandapara area, leaving him dead on the spot, said locals.

It was known that Hridoy was listening to music with earphones on when the truck rammed his bike.

Parbatipur Police Station OC Chittya Ranjan Roy said being informed, police recovered the body from the spot and the legal actions were being taken in this regard.
