The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) called for making the supply chain system free from the influence of invisible hands in order to stabilise the market.

The apex trade body made this recommendation at a meeting of its standing committee on the price monitoring at its office in the capital on Sunday, with Senior Vice-President of FBCCI Md Amin Helaley in the chair.

Expressing concerns about negative comments directed at businessmen for the price hike, Helaley said most traders prefer to operate their businesses with transparency and honesty.

He noted that due to a handful of unscrupulous businessmen, the entire community is often blamed by consumers for market price volatility.

But an ideal trader never entertains the idea of involvement in smuggling or price manipulation, he added.

He urged all kitchen market committees in the capital to communicate their problems and drawbacks to the FBCCI.

Furthermore, he mentioned that FBCCI would soon engage in discussions with the government to address the issues facing the traders and wholesalers.
