NARAYANGANJ, Mar 25: Four people have been badly injured in mass beating after suspecting them as dacoits in the district.
However, police have claimed that they were muggers.
The incident took place in Gognagar area under Sadar Upazila early Friday morning.
Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station (PS) Shahadat Hossain said on information, police went to the scene and took the injured to their custody after rescuing them. Then they were admitted to a local hospital.
The injured are: Robin Gazi, 26, of Jollarpara Masjid Golli in the city, Mohiuddin, 22, of the Member Golli in Shahid Nagar area, Anik Hasan, 28, of Gopchar area, and Nayan Mia, 32, a resident of Bandar Upazila.
Quoting the locals, the OC said locals detained the four youths after being suspecting them as dacoits. At that time, angry mob beat them and they fell down on the ground being injured. Reaching the scene, police rescued them and took them to hospital under their custody.
OC Shahadat thought that four injured youth were muggers. He said investigation into the cases filed against them earlier was going on.
Besides, legal steps would be taken after filing of a case with the PS in this regard, the OC added.
