Some 90 per cent fail in DU admission tests

The results of the admission tests of Honour's first year of all units for the academic year of 2023-2024 of Dhaka University were published on Thursday.

Prof ASM Maksud Kamal, vice-chancellor of the university, announced the results of four units at Abdul Matin Chowdhury Virtual Classroom Thursday afternoon.
Announcing the results of the admission tests of Arts, Law and Social Science Unit, Science Unit, Business Education Unit and Fine Arts Unit, the vice-chancellor said the first year classes will commence on July 1 next.

Analysing the results, it has been found that some 90 per cent of the examinees have failed in all the four units.

The pass rate is 8.89 per cent in Science Unit. Some 1,09,363 students sat for the admission test. Of them, only 9,723 examinees pass the test.

The pass rate is 10.07 per cent in Arts, Law and Social Science Unit. Some 1,02,000 students sat for the admission test. Of them, only 10,275 students pass the admission test. Through this unit, 944 examinees from the Science Unit, 1,707 from the Arts Unit and 283 from the Business Education Unit have obtained the chances of admission to the university.

The pass rate in Business Education Unit is 13.33 per cent. A total of 34,367 examinees appeared in the admission test under this unit. Of them, only 4,582 passed the test.

The pass rate in Fine Arts Unit is 11.75 per cent. A total of 4,510 examinees took part in the admission test under this unit. Of them, only 530 pass the admission test.

Meanwhile, Pratik Rasul, a student of Notre Dame College of Dhaka, stood first in the Science Unit. He obtained 111.25 marks, while Priyanti Mondal of the Government MM City College of Khulna appeared first in Arts, Law and Social Science Unit. She secured 105.25 marks.

Nafisa Tabassum of Lakkhipur Government College stood first in the Arts unit. She obtained 98.50 marks, while Sadia Afrin of Motijheel Ideal School and College of Dhaka stood first from the Business Education Unit. She obtained 94 marks.

Besides, Othoi Dhar of the Government Commerce College of Chattogram stood first in Business Education Unit. She obtained 105.50 marks, while Md Badhan Talukder, a student of Birshrestha Munshi Abdur Rouf Public College, obtained 98.16 marks appearing at the admission test under the Fine Arts Unit, while Irin Jahan Antara from Adamjee Cantonment College appeared second obtaining 98 marks, and Rivu Roddur from Birshrestha Munshi Abdur Rouf College stood third securing 93 marks.

HOW TO KNOW THE RESULTS

One could check the results on the university website -- admission.eis.du.ac.bd -- or use the short message service available on any mobile operator.

For SMS notification of the result, candidates of B unit will have to type "DU ALS (roll number)" and send to 16321.

For A unit candidate they have to type "DU SCI(roll number)", C unit candidates will have to type "DU BUS (roll number)" and Cha unit candidate will have to type "DU FRT(roll number)".

The qualified students must fill up subject choice forms through the website between April 3 and April 25.
