Livestock starts selling food items in districts

To reduce sufferings of lower and middle-income people, the Department of Livestock Services (DLS) started selling of food items in different districts of the country including Khulna and Pirojpur.  

KHULNA: DLS has begun a three-day egg and milk selling programme for common people from Thursday on  the DLS premises in the city.

Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque inaugurated  the sales programme as the chief guest.

The mayor said, government has taken various steps to bring down prices of necessary essential commodities.

Kitchen markets are stable, and most of the commodities prices have already declined during the month of holy Ramadan, he said, adding that common people are now purchasing milk, meat and egg with very reasonable prices.

 Dr Lutfor Rahman, director of the DLS-Khulna Division, said, each people will buy 11 pieces of egg at Tk 9 per piece while one litre of milk at Tk 70.

"Although the sale activities have begun for three days, but we are trying to continue the programme till the end of the holy Ramadan," the DLS official added.

PIROJPUR: On the occasion, an inaugural programme was organized on the deputy commissioner (DC) office premises in the town on Wednesday morning.

Local MP and Chairman of  Fisheries and Livestock  Standing Committee of the Jatiya Sangsad SM Rezaul Karim attended  the opening function as the chief guest.

DC  Mohamed Jahedur Rahman, Superintendent of Police  Muhammad Shariful Islam (PPM), General Secretary of District Awami League advocate Kani Lal Biswas were present as special guests.

Barishal Divisional Director of the Livestock office  Dr  Md Abu Sufian presided over the opening function.
Speakers said, during Ramadan low income group people will get benefits from the mobile sale of frozen food by vans. The imitative will continue till  Eid-ul- Fitr, they added.     

Beef is being sold at Tk 650 per kilogram (kg), egg at Tk 100 per dozen (twelve pieces) and milk at Tk 60 per litre.
