State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu said on Sunday that the first consignment of 1, 650 metric tonnes (MT) of onion will arrive in the county from India tonight.

He came up with the announcement while talking to reporters after a task force meeting on 'commodity price and review of market condition' at the conference room of the Commerce Ministry in the capital, UNB reports.
"Onion will come from India tonight. Each kilogram of onion will be sold at Tk 40 through open market sale (OMS) of the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh in Dhaka and Chattogram within one day," he said.

The state minister said 1, 650 MT of onion will come by the first train today and next consignments of imported onion will come in phases.

The government has decided to import onion from neighbouring India through the G2G method after onion prices went up at the local market.
