Road mishaps claim nine lives in five districts

Nine people including a child have been killed and four others injured in separate road accidents in four districts - Rangpur, Gopalganj, Gazipur, Brahmanbaria and Barguna, in two days.
RANGPUR: Four people were killed and three others injured in separate road accidents in the district in two days.
Three people including two teenagers were killed and two others were seriously injured in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a battery-powered auto-rickshaw in the district on Wednesday night.
The accident took place at Colonypara intersection under Mahiganj Police Station (PS) at around 11 pm.
The deceased were identified as Nahid, 18, son of Faizur Rahman, hailed from Purba Chanpara Village under Kawnia Upazila, Janu, 15, a madrasa student of the same upazila, and Rabiul Islam, 32, an auto-rickshaw driver.
According to police and local sources, a Dhaka-bound bus of Nabil Paribahan from Kurigram collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction when it reached the area. Auto-rickshaw passenger Nahid died on the spot and four others were critically injured at that time.
The injured were then rescued by locals and admitted to a hospital. Later on, Janu and the auto-rickshaw driver Rabiul succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment there.
Abu Toeb, relative of deceased Nahid, said that Nahid went to Rangpur along with his friend to do Eid shopping in the evening. The accident happened on the way back to home.
Being informed, police recovered the bodies.
However, the law enforcers have seized the bus, but its driver and his helper managed to flee the scene.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mahiganj PS Roshan Kabir confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this regard.
On the other hand, a motorcyclist was killed and his pillion passenger injured as the motorcycle hit a roadside tree after losing its control over the steering in Pirgachha Upazila of the district on Tuesday night.
The deceased was identified as Azadul Islam, 22, son of Kayum Munshi, a resident of Bhakterbazar area in the upazila.
The injured person is Rafiqul Islam, a friend of the deceased.
Confirming the matter, Pirgachha PS OC Sushanto Sarkar said Azadul and his friend Rafiqul were returning home from Pirgachha Bazar at night riding on a motorcycle. When they reached Tambolpur Bazar at around 11:15 pm, Azadul lost control over the steering of his bike and hit a roadside tree. Azadul died on the spot and Rafiqul sustained head injuries at that time.
Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene.
The injured was rescued and admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
However, necessary steps would be taken in this regard, the OC added.
GOPALGANJ: Two teenage boys were killed in a motorcycle accident in Muksudpur Upazila of the district on Wednesday night.
The accident took place in Shantipur area on the Tekerhat-Gopalganj highway of the upazila at around 10 pm.
The deceased were identified as Hafizul Matubbar, 18, son of Omar Matubbar, and Faizul Matubbar, 15, son of Mofazzel Matubbar. Both of them were residents of Dakshin Gangarampur Village under the upazila.
According to police and local sources, the two teenagers went for a motorcycle ride on the Tekerhat-Gopalganj highway on Wednesday night. They were going towards Tekerhat after visiting different places. On the way, the speedy motorcycle hit the back of a truck parked in Shantipur area on the highway at around 10 pm. At that time, motorcyclist Hafizul Matubbar and pillion rider Faizul Matubbar fell on the road, which left them critically injured.
Later on, locals rescued the injured and took them to neighbouring Rajoir Upazila Health Complex, where they were declared dead by the on-duty      doctor.
Being informed, police recovered the bodies.
Shaukat Hossain, in-charge of Sindiaghat Police Outpost in Muksudpur, confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this regard.
GAZIPUR: A young man was killed after being hit by a covered van in Chaurasta area of the district on Wednesday.
The accident took place on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway under Bason PS at night.
The deceased was identified as Lavlu Mia, 25, son of Md Dula Mia, hailed from Sibdouro Para area in Mithapukur Upazila of Rangpur District. He was a worker of BRT project.
Quoting locals, Bason PS OC Abu Siddik said a covered van ran over Lavlu Mia while he was working in the area at night. He died on the spot.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
However, the law enforcers have seized the covered van and arrested its driver.
Legal procedures are undergoing in this regard, the OC added.
NABINAGAR, BRAHMANBARIA: A college student was killed and another injured in a road accident in Nabinagar Upazila of the district on Tuesday evening.
The accident took place on the Nabinagar-Companiganj road in Ibrahimpur Union of the upazila at around 7 pm.
The deceased was identified as Jidan, 17, son of Beauty Begum, a resident of Basharuk Village in the upazila. He was an eleventh grader at Barrister Jakir Ahmed College.
The injured person is Jahid, 17, a resident of Bangra Village and also an eleventh grader of Barrister Jakir Ahmed College.
It was known that Beauty Begum bought her son Jidan a motorcycle two weeks back. On Tuesday evening, Jidan along with his friend Jahid were riding on the motorcycle. At one stage, they met the tragic accident on the Nabinagar-Companiganj road in Ibrahimpur Union, which left Jidan dead on the spot and Jahid critically injured.
Being informed, police recovered the body and handed it over to the deceaseds family members without an autopsy as no complaint was lodged from them in this regard.
Nabinagar PS Inspector (Investigation) Sajal Kanti Das confirmed the         incident.
PATHARGHATA, BARGUNA: A minor girl was killed after being hit by a truck in Patharghata Upazila of the district on Tuesday morning.
The accident took place on the Bainchatki Ferry Ghat road in Kakchira Union under the upazila at around 10:30 am.
The deceased was identified as Khadiza Akhter, 4, daughter of Humayun Kabir, a resident of the area.
Local sources said a Barguna-bound truck from Jashore hit Khadiza in the morning while she was crossing the road, which left her dead on the spot.
Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to Barguna General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Patharghata PS OC Md Anwar Hossain confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this regard.
