Government is contemplating connecting Metro Rail with Sadarghat, said State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury.

He disclosed it while visiting the Dhaka Sadarghat Launch Terminal area on Friday (April 5).

Regarding the receiving of benefits of Metro Rail by the inhabitants of Old Dhaka, the state minister said the residents of Old Dhaka will also receive the benefits of Metro Rail. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working about the multimodal connectivity  since 1996. During the last 15 years, she has gifted the countrymen Metro Rail and Elevated Expressway etc. The government is also contemplating connecting Sadarghat with Metro Rail.
Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said the inhabitants of the country's southern region living in the capital will also be able to reach Sadarghat by Metro Rail. They will receive this benefit within a short time. The prime minister is working on a coordinated development. Sadarghat will also be brought under this development programme. The people of the country's southern region were lagging behind. The Payra Port has been built for their upliftment. The overall scenario in that area has changed after the Payra Port was inaugurated. So, the Padma Bridge and Payra Port have changed the face of southern region. Sadarghat will also be much smarter in the days ahead.

The State Minister observed that the traditional face of Sadarghat has changed through the construction of Padma Bridge. Discipline has also come back here. It was not possible in any way before the construction of Padma Bridge. In the past, people had to come to Sadarghat from Sadarghat by speed boats. They could not come here directly by road because the road from Golap Shah Mazar to Sadarghat was filled with traffic congestion. Not, discipline has come back after the construction of Padma Bridge.

"On behalf of the Ministry of Shipping and BIWTA, we express our gratitude to the prime minister. We can see joy among people because they can travel by launches conveniently," he said.
