BARISHAL, Apr 5: Inflation-affected people are making Eid dress purchase on footpath shops and hawkers markets in the district.

Footpath shops from Nagar Bhaban to Chak Bazar and in Mahsin Market, huge customers were seen. But compared to that, customers are less in permanent shops.

Most of the customers are from low and middle income sections.

Poor presence of customers in shops of Chakbazar, Katpotti, Girzamahalla and Sadar was noticed.

Sales on footpath shops are taking place from 11am to 5pm and from 7pm to mid night.

Footpath customers said, prices of showrooms are higher than those of showrooms.

The Eid shopping started to pick up after 20 Ramadan. In other years, Eid shopping started after 10 Ramadan.

Before few days of Ramadan, two brand shops, Aarong and Infinity, were opened in the city. Despite poor presence of customers, they are expecting good sales.

Dull trading was seen in shops of Semai, sugar, spice and food. These items are also selling at higher prices.

Prices of broiler hen, cock and Sonali hen are 1.5 times higher, compared to last years. Beef is available at less than Tk 750 per kilogram (kg). Mutton is selling at Tk 1,500 per kg.
