Five minor children drowned in separate incidents in three districts - Bhola, Netrakona and Kushtia, in three days.
CHAR FASSON, BHOLA: Two minor children drowned in a pond in Char Fasson Upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Junayed Hossain, 5, son of Md Harun, and Arafat Hossain, 5, son of Md Swapan. Both of them were residents of Mianpur Village in the upazila.
Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Char Fasson Police Station (PS) Shakhawat Hossain said Junayed and Arafat drowned in a pond nearby the house while they were playing on its bank in the afternoon.
Later on, locals spotted the bodies of the duo floating on the water and recovered those from the pond.
The bodies were, however, handed over to the deceaseds families without autopsies as per their request, the OC added.
NETRAKONA: A nineteen-month-old minor boy drowned in a pond in Kendua Upazila of the district on Wednesday noon.
The incident took place in Digar Sahilati Village under Royailbari Union of the upazila at around 1:30 pm.
The deceased was identified as Md Adnan, son son of Sohag Mia, a resident of the village.
Police and local sources said Adnan was playing beside a pond next to the house at noon. At one stage, he fell in the pond while his family members were unaware of it.
Sensing the matter, the family members rescued him from the pond and took to Kendua Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared the child dead.
Being informed, police recovered the body and handed it over to the deceaseds family members without an autopsy as per their request.
Kendua PS OC Enamul Haque confirmed the incident.
KUSHTIA: Two minor children drowned in a pond in Khoksa Upazila of the district on Monday.
The deceased were identified as two-and-a-half-year-old Jannati Khatun, daughter of Shoyan Hossain, and three-and-a-half-year-old Muslima Khatun, daughter of Ratan Hossain. Both of them were residents of Komarbhog Village in the upazila.
Local sources said Jannati and Muslima drowned in a pond nearby the house in the morning while they were playing on its bank.
Later on, locals spotted the bodies of the duo floating on water and recovered those from the pond.
The bodies of the children were, later, handed over to the deceaseds families without autopsies as no complaints were lodged from them in this regard.
Khoksa PS OC Annur Zayed confirmed the incident.
