Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury has provided financial assistance to the family of slain forest official Md Sazzaduzzaman, who was killed while performing his duties.
The minister on Sunday handed over a cheque of Tk15 lakh to the deceased's mother at Vitikandi village in Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj.
On March 31, Sazzaduzzaman, a beat officer at Dochhari Forest in the Ukhiya Range of Cox's Bazar South Forest Division, was crushed under a dumper truck during a drive against hill cutting at Harinmara in Ukhiya upazila.
He said the ministry is working to ensure the maximum punishment for the killers and the accused would be brought to book through a transparent process.
The minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was also informed about the incident and she expressed grief and sorrow.
He said the Forest Department would always stand by Sazzaduzzaman’s family and assured the employment of the deceased's wife so that the family does not face any financial crisis.
The minister, accompanied by senior officials of the ministry, went to Munshiganj to visit the family of Sazzaduzzaman on Sunday.
