Five people including a woman allegedly committed suicide in separate incidents in five districts - Pirojpur, Joypurhat, Lalmonirhat, Patuakhali and Dinajpur, recently.
KAWKHALI, PIROJPUR: A man reportedly committed suicide after consuming poison in Kawkhali Upazila of the district on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as Rafiq Bepari, 55, son of late Afzal Hossain, a resident of Pashchim Amrajuri Village under the upazila. He was a farmer by profession.
Local and the deceaseds family sources said Rafiq consumed poison in the house at around 11 pm.
Sensing the matter, the family members rescued him and immediately took to Kawkhali Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Rafiq dead.
Physician of the health complex Dr Md Nazrul Islam said the man had died before being taken to the hospital.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Pirojpur Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy on Saturday morning.
However, the reason behind the suicide of Rafiq Bepari could not be known immediately.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kawkhali Police Station (PS) Md Humayun Kabir confirmed the incident, adding that an unnatural death case was filed with the PS in this regard and necessary steps would be taken after investigation.
JOYPURHAT: A college student reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself in Panchbibi Upazila of the district on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Tonmoy Das, 22, son of Khitish Chandra Das, a resident of Balighata Village under the upazila. He was an honours final year student of Computer Science Department of Naogaon Polytechnic Institute.
Quoting the deceaseds family members, police said Tonmoy had an argument with his family members over a trivial matter. As a sequel to it, he hanged himself from the ceiling fan of his room in the afternoon.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Joypurhat Adhunik Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Panchbibi PS OC Foysal Bin Ahsan confirmed the incident, adding that an unnatural death case was filed in this regard.
LALMONIRHAT: A young man reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself in Kaliganj Upazila of the district Wednesday for not getting money to buy drugs.
The incident took place in Gopalray area under Kakina Union of the upazila in the evening.
The deceased was identified as Abu Bakar Siddique, 24, son of late Abul Hossain, a resident of the area.
Local sources said that Abu Bakar was a drug addict for long. He often used to lock into quarrel and beat up his mother for money to buy drugs.
On Wednesday evening, he again demanded money from his mother for buying drugs. As his mother refused to give him the money, he committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan of his room in the house out of huff with his mother.
His mother was not at home at that time. When she came home, found the body of her son hanging from the ceiling.
Locals, later, informed the matter to police.
Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to the Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Kaliganj PS OC Imtiaz Kabir confirmed the incident, adding that the body will be handed over to the deceaseds family members after completion of the autopsy and an unnatural death case was filed with the PS in this regard.
KALAPARA, PATUAKHALI: A woman reportedly committed suicide in the districts Kalapara Upazila on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Jainab Bibi, 50, wife of Mojibor Molla, a resident of Pasharbunia Village under Lalua Union of the upazila.
According to police and locals, the woman, mother of three children, took poison at her house around 11 pm as her husband again got married to another woman.
Kalapara PS OC (Investigation) Mostafizur Rahman said on information, police recovered the body on Tuesday morning and sent it to Patuakhali General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
However, a case was filed with the PS in this regard and the actual cause of death will be known after getting the autopsy report, the OC added.
PARBATIPUR, DINAJPUR: A young man reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself in Parbatipur Upazila of the district on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Shaheb Ali, 20, son of Osman Goni, a resident of Abbas Para Kalibari area under Parbatipur Municipality.
It was known that Shaheb Ali was a drug addict. He demanded money to his parents on Friday night to buy drugs. As he did not get the money, Shaheb hanged himself from the ceiling of his room in the house at around 11 am on Saturday.
Sensing the matter, the family members rescued him and took him to a local hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared the youth dead.
Being informed, police recovered the body.
Parbatipur Model PS OC Chitta Ranjan Roy confirmed the incident.
