A short circuit in an electric kettle at 'Cha Chumuk' shop on the ground floor of Green Cozy Cottage building at
Baily Road sparked the
fire that claimed 46 lives, according to the Fire Service.
Their probe also found there was a gas leak in the building, which allowed the fire to spread quickly.
A five-member probe committee submitted their report to its headquarters in the last week.
Meanwhile, RAJUK also submitted its report where it said that the Fire Service and Dhaka South City Corporation are responsible for the fire incident.
Fire Service said due to gas accumulation, the fire soon spread the upstairs from kettle's short circuit.
"If the building had an exit stairway, so many people would not have died," said Lt Col Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury, director (operations) of the agency and the head of the probe committee, on Sunday.
"The fire originated from the short circuit of an electric kettle at the coffee shop named 'Cha Chumuk' on the ground floor of the building. Gas accumulating from a leak played a key role in spreading the fire. Within four to five minutes, the fire had engulfed the entire ground floor," he said.
At night on February 29, a devastating fire broke out at the Green Cozy Cottage building in the capital's Baily Road area. Fourty-six people were killed in the fire.
Later, Fire Service and RAJUK formed separate probe bodies.
