Road mishaps claim five lives in five districts

Five people including a minor boy have been killed and another was injured in separate road accidents in five districts - Jhenidah, Patuakhali, Tangail, Khulna and Barishal, in four days.

JHENIDAH: A bank manager was killed in a road accident in Kaliganj Upazila of the district on Monday.
The accident took place in Kaliganj Bus Stand area at around 5 am.
The deceased was identified as Hasanuzzaman, 45, hailed from Narikelbaria area under Sadar Upazila in the district. He was a manager of IFIC Bank in Satkhira.

Local sources said Hasanuzzaman was going to Satkhira from Jhenidah riding on a motorcycle at dawn. On the way, his motorcycle collided with another motorcycle coming from the opposite direction in Kaliganj Bus Stand area. When he fell on the road, a truck coming from behind ran over him. He died on the spot.

On information, Fire Service personnel rushed there and recovered the body.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kaliganj Police Station (PS) Abu Asif confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers have seized the truck and arrested its driver and his helper.

MIRZAGANJ, PATUAKHALI: A pedestrian was killed after being hit a three-wheeler in Mirzaganj Upazila of the district on Sunday  morning.

The accident took place at around 7:30 am in front of Subidkhali Degree College on the Subidkhali-Betagi road under the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Md Maleq, 45, son of late Majed Shikder of Kola Rong Village under Taltali Upazila in Barguna District. He was a mahindra driver by profession and lived in a rented house at Mirzaganj.

Police and local sources said after keeping his mahindra in front of Subidkhali Degree College, Maleq was going to his rented house in the morning on foot. On the way, a nosimon (local three-wheeler vehicle) hit him, which left Maleq critically injured.

Locals then rescued him, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH).

Mirzaganj PS OC Hafizur Rahman confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken if anyone files complain in this regard.

GHATAIL, TANGAIL: An elderly man was killed as a truck crushed him in Ghatail Upazila of the district on Sunday.
The accident took place in Atharodana area on the Tangail-Mymensingh highway under the upazila at dawn.

The deceased was identified as Bablu, 70, a resident of Atharodana Village in the upazila. He was a village doctor by          profession.

Quoting locals, Ghatail PS OC Mohammad Abu Salam Mia said the accident occurred early in the morning in front of the deceaseds house when he was going to a village mosque for performing Fajr prayers. Bablu died on the spot.

Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene.

However, necessary steps would be taken in this regard, the OC added.

DUMURIA, KHULNA: A minor boy was killed and his brother injured after being hit by a truck in Dumuria Upazila of the district on Sunday.

The accident took place in Atharo Mile Chara Bottala area on the Khulna-Satkhira highway of the upazila at around 11 am.
The deceased was identified as Md Tazimul Islam, 9, son of Abdus Sattar, a resident of Chuknagar Sadar Ward under the upazila. He was a student of Hefz Department at Mathbaria Madrasa.

Police and local sources said Tazimul along with his brother was heading towards Atharo Mile Bazar from Chuknagar in the morning riding on a bicycle.

On the way, a truck hit the bicycle in Atharo Mile Chara Bottala area on the Khulna-Satkhira highway at around 11 am, leaving the duo seriously injured.

Later on, locals rescued the injured and took them to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared Tazimul dead.

Being informed, police recovered the body and handed it over to the deceaseds family members without an autopsy as per their request.

However, the truck driver along with his vehicle managed to flee the scene soon after the accident.

Kharnia Highway PS OC Md Hamid Uddin confirmed the incident.

BARISHAL: A man was killed in a road accident in Mehendiganj Upazila of the district on Friday night.

The accident took place in Ward No. 7 Badarpur Food Storage area under Mehendiganj Municipality at around 8 pm.

The deceased was identified as Sumon Hawlader, 35, son of late Jalil Hawlader, a resident of Char Khakkata Village under Chanpur Union in the upazila. He was a trolley driver by profession.

Quoting locals, Mehendiganj Fire Service Station Team Leader Ali Ashraf said Sumon was going to Patarhaat Port from Dhulia Madhya Char area under the upazila at night riding on his trolley.

On the way, the trolley fell in a roadside ditch in Ward No. 7 Badarpur Food Storage area after losing its control over the steering, which left him seriously injured.

Locals then rescued the injured and rushed him to Mehendiganj Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared the trolley driver dead.

Being informed, police recovered the body.

Mehendiganj PS OC Yasinul Haque confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this regard.
