Fugitive gang-rape convict held in Ctg after 9yrs

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a convict, who was sentenced to life-term imprisonment in a gang rape case, from Nazirhat area under Hathazari upazila of Chattogram district on Friday after nine years.
 
The arrestee was Suman, 33, son of Md Siddique, a resident of Harishpur area under Sindwip upazila of the district.
Senior assistant director of RAB-7, Nurul Abser said  the accused Suman along with his some accomplices forcibly raped a girl on May 12 in 2015.
 
Victim’s brother filed a case with the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court against four people, including Suman as the main accused.  
 
On September 18, 2023, a Chattogram court sentenced Sumon to life-term imprisonment and fined him Tk 20,000, in default, to suffer six months more in jail.
 
The official said Suman was handed over to the respective police station for further legal action.
