Pahela Baishakh celebrated in districts

Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bangla New Year-1431, was celebrated in different districts of the country including Gaibandha, Pabna, Panchagarh, Pirojpur, and Rajbari, on Sunday with much enthusiasm and traditional festivity.

GAIBANDHA: Marking the Day, different educational institutions and socio-cultural organizations organized different  programmes separately.

In the morning around 9:30 am, Ananda Shobhajatra was brought out from Independence Square, and it ended at the same venue after parading the main roads of the town at the arrangement of the district administration.

Local lawmaker Shah Sarwar Kabir accompanied by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kazi Nahid Rasul, Superintendent of Police Kamal Hossain, Mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Matlulubour Rahman, Freedom Fighter Mahmudul Haque Sahzada led the Shobhajatra as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion Shah Sarwar Kabir, MP, in his speech. said the celebration of Pahela Baishakh had become integral part of Bengalis culture and tradition and it has been  turned into a day of merriment and hoped that Bangla New Year 1431 would bring continued peace, happiness and pleasures for all.

Then, a number of balloons were released in the sky from the  premises of independence Square.  The programme was followed Shilpakala Academy and the district rendered songs and performed dances to entertain the participants. Improved diets were distributed to the jail inmates and the children of Govtvernment Shishu Paribars of the district.

Traditional Halkhata was also held at the arrangement of the businessmen in haats-bazars, groceries, sales centres and important places in both rural and urban areas, distributing sweets among their customers.

The district police adopted tight security measures to ensure law and order for peaceful celebrations of the day with the rich cultural heritage of the Bengalees, said Police Super Kamal Hossain.

PABNA:  Like every year, Pahela Baishakh was celebrated in Pabna with the same zeal, welcoming the Bangla New Year.
 
Wearing new dresses, people from all walks of life gathered on the premises of Government Edward College; they exchanged greetings with each other after the rise of the sun, hailing the New Year.

To mark the Day, Square Consumer Products Ltd organized a live cultural event, crowded by myriad people.

The cultural function was followed by a live cultural concert where renowned singers enthralled the audience.
 
In the early morning, different organisations, along with district administration, Square Consumer  Products Limited, and other cultural organizations jointly brought out a colourful rally; the rally paraded main road in the district.
 
In the evening, most people from different parts of the town and upazila crowded the Edward College field; they enjoyed the evening without having any cultural events.

In the early morning of the last of the Bengali year, local Hindu community organized local indigenous cultural events on different temple premises like Hajera Khela.

PANCHAGARH: District administration brought out a colourful rally from the DC office premises. The rally paraded different roads in the town, and it ended at the Collectorate Adarsha Shiksha Niketan.

People from all walks of life including officers and employees of various public and private institutions of the district, teachers and students of various educational institutions, leaders and workers of social, political, cultural and professional organizations, participated in the rally.

It was also attended by children and teenagers dressed in Baisakhi attire.

Later on, Panta festival, discussion meeting and cultural function were organized;  
DC  Md Zahurul Islam presided over the discussion meeting.

Panchgarh-1 Constituency MP Naimuzzaman Bhuiyan Mukta, Reserved Woman MP Rezia Islam, SP SM Sirajul Huda, Zilla Parishad Chairman Abdul Hannan Sheikh, Municipal Mayor Zakia Khatun, Civil Surgeon Dr Mustafa Zaman Chowdhury, and Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Amirul Islam spoke.  

Traditional Bengali Stick Games, Hadudu, Sapkhela, Banarkhela, Baisakhi fair and handicraft exhibition were  organized in different places of the district.

PIROJPUR:  District administration, cultural organizations, academic institutions, and government organisations, and private organizations organized day-long programmes, marking the Day.

District administration brought out a colourful rally as Mongal Shovajatra" from the premises of District Shilpakala Academy; after parading main roads, the rally ended on the Government Boys School playground.

A seven-day Baishakhi Mela was opened on the play ground.

DC Mohammed Jahedur Rahman,  SP Muhammad Shariful Islam (PPM), Additional DC (General) Madhubi Roy, District Awami League President AKMA Awal, General Secretary Advocate Kanai Lal Biswas, and Shilpalakala Academy Secretary  Md Zeiaul Ahsan Gazi spoke at the opening function.

Journalists, freedom fighters, government officials, cultural activists, singers, and artistes were present.

RAJBARI: The town wore a festive look on Sunday as people of all ages, especially youths, came out on the roads wearing eventful dresses to celebrate the Pahela  Baishakh.

The day-long programmes included rally, discussion meeting, as you like competition , traditional indoor sports like Hadudu, horse race, snake dance,  art and song competition, and poem recitation. The main programme was organized by Rajbari District administration.

A discussion meeting was held on the Amrokanon premises with DC Abu Kaiser Khan in the chair.

It was addressed, among others, by Kazi Keramot Ali, MP.

Different socio-cultural organizations gathered under the banner paraded on different roads in the town.

People of district administration brought out a colourful rally with festoons and placards.
