State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu said on Monday that prices of essentials were under control during holy Ramadan.

The people comfortably celebrated Eid and Bangla New Year, he said at a press conference at his Secretariat office.

Earlier, he exchanged greetings with Commerce Ministry officials and employees.

Ahsanul Islam Titu said, "With our limited capacity we are working to control prices. We are not working for results or achievement, we are working in the interest of the country and the people."

He said, "The next few years will be very important for us. During this time, we want to take our trade to the desired goal."

Joint Secretary General of BNP Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that the happiness of Eid and Pahela Baisakh has been washed away by the tears of the common people due to high commodity prices.

When reporters asked for his opinion on this issue, the State Minister said, "Everyone celebrated Eid with enthusiasm. This year Bangla  New Year, was celebrated not only in the capital  but also in the villages, the way the New Year was celebrated. I saw enthusiasm in the cebrations. If someone says something politically, it is better not to answer to them. Nothing to answer. Only the people can say whether they are uncomfortable or comfortable.  I saw everyone celebrating Eid and Bangla New Year with enthusiasm. This is my experience. I think he said it politically. There is nothing to say about it."

The Prime Ministers order was to give relief to people during Ramadan, will it continue after Ramadan or not? In response to his question, he told reporters, "We will work for uninterrupted  supply of essential commodities throughout the year, not only during Ramadan. We will strengthen our supply chains including imports and exports.
There were huge challenges during Ramadan. Demand for everything increased three times. It was a great experience for me. You know, we imported onion from India. We ensured enough supply of all the essential  commodities including cooking oil, sugar. Prices were low. I tackled all the challenges."
