Extortion with elephants, two mahouts jailed

Dinajpur's Khansama upazila administration arrested two mahouts and sentenced them to six months' imprisonment by a moblie court for extortion from pedestrians with elephants.

The two mahouts were arrested on Tuesday (April 16) through a coordinated operation by the upazila administration, Khansama Police, Khansama Fire Service and forest department.
The convicts are Yasin Islam, 20, hailed from Shibganj upazila in Bogura district, and Azizul Haque, 21, from Nachol upazila in Chapainawabganj district.

Khansama Upazila Nirbahi Officer Taj Uddin led the mobile court and sentenced the two persons under the Wildlife (Protection and Security) Act, 2012 to six months' imprisonment.

Assistant Forest Conservator Nurun Nahar, Khansama Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mozaharul Islam and Upazila Forest Officer Manjurul Quader were present at that time.
