A Chinese man was killed and six others were injured after a boiler exploded at a battery factory in Kashimpur of Gazipur on Tuesday night.
The deceased is Pu Xuqi, 53, an engineer at the factory.
The five injured workers – Delwar Hossain, Abdur Rahim, Aminur Rahman, Dalim Ahmed and Raju – were admitted to Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib KPG Specialised Hospital in Gazipur.
Another injured, Amal Ghosh, 32, has been sent to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the capital for better treatment.
Officer-in-charge of Kashimpur Police Station Sanwar Jahan said the incident took place at around 8pm on Tuesday at Chinese-owned Tong Rui Da Industry’s factory at Palash Housing in South Panishail.
He said after the factory reopened following Eid and Pohela Boishakh holidays, workers found that the boiler was not starting.
The explosion followed by a fire occurred when Peu Shu Qi tried to repair it, he added.
The body of the deceased was kept at the mortuary of Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital.
Abdullah Al Arefin, deputy assistant director of Gazipur Fire Service, said that two units of fire fighters from Sarabo station went to the spot to put out the fire and conducted the rescue operation.
