Livestock Services Fair begins today

PM to inaugurate at Old Trade Fair ground at Sher-e-Banglanagar

To encourage poultry and the dairy farmers and ensure development in the sector, a two-day Livestock Services Week and Fair, 2024 opens in the capital today (Thursday).

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the fair at 10:00am at the Old Trade Fair (Banijjo Mela) Ground at Sher-e-Banglanagar near the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Dhaka.

With the support of Bangladesh Dairy Farmers Association (BDFA) and Bangladesh Poultry Industries Council (BPIC), the Department of Livestock Services (DLS) under the Fisheries and Livestock Ministry is organizing the fair.

The farmers of poultry and dairy sector across the country will join the event to display their cattle and birds in the fair, according to the organisers.

Along with the central programme, similar fair would be organized at 466 upazilas of 64 districts at a same time.

After the inaugural session of the fair, the Prime Minister is expected to visit the fairground to witness the animals developed by the countrys farmers. Later, the fairground will be opened to visitors.

Beginning from 10:00am, the fair will remain open till 8:00pm every day. The two-day fair will end on Friday. The visitors would be allowed to enter the ground without any entry fee.

According to the organizers, the farmers who will take part in the fair will display their animals and birds in 25 pavilions and 30 stalls in the fairground. Of those, seven pavilions would be dedicated for the government authorities.

More than 3,000 farmers out of total 55,000 members of the BDFA from Dhaka, Cumilla, Manikganj, Munshiganj, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Bogura, Pabna, Sirajganj, Jashore, Benapole, Kushtia, and Chuadanga, and other districts will join the fair.

Fisheries and Livestock Minister Abdur Rahman on Tuesday visited the fairground, its facilities and security measures taken marking the fair and Prime Ministers presence in the inaugural session.

He told media that all preparations for the fair have already been taken. It would be a gathering of the countries farmers. The fair will be a great chance for the root-level farmers to produce and sell their animals and birds at a same place with the mega companies.
