A Bandarban court has placed 52 arrested suspected members of separatist group Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) on four-day remand in two cases filed over banks robbery, looting firearms, and kidnapping of a Sonali bank manager in Bandarban.
Bandarban Chief Judicial Magistrate Court Judge Mohammad Nazmul Hossain granted remand order in two cases after police produced 57 suspected KNF members before the court seeking a 5-day remand.
Among them, 52 were granted four-day remand, a female KNF member allowed to be interrogated at jail gate and four others were sent to jail.
Of the 53 people, who were placed in remand, 17 were female.
Bishwajit Singh, GRO of the court, said that 57 arrestees were produced before the court from the jail on Thursday with the remand prayer.
On April 2, KNF members abducted Bandarban’s Ruma upazila branch Sonali Bank manager Md Nizam Uddin.They also carried out robberies at Sonali Bank and Krishi Bank branches in Thanchi upazila of Bandarban on the following day.
A total of nine cases were filed with Ruma and Thanchi police stations.
The joint forces, so far, arrested over 66 people, including the chief coordinator of the group and later they were later sent to jail in the cases.
