DINAJPUR, Apr 18: A young man was hacked to death allegedly by his elder brother and his family over a land dispute in Paschim Baluadanga area in the district town on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Rasel Reja Babu, 24, son of freedom fighter and retired police constable Hasan Ali.
Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge (OC) (Investigation) of Dinajpur Kotwali Police Station (PS) Md Moniruzzaman said there had been a longstanding dispute between Rasel and his elder brother Md Masud Rana over the ownership of a piece of a land. On Wednesday morning, an altercation broke out between them over the matter.
At one stage of the altercation, Masud Rana along with his wife and son attacked on Rasel with lethal weapons and hacked him, leaving him critically injured.
Rasel was then rescued and taken to Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries at around 4:45 pm.
On information, police recovered the body and kept it at the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
However, the law enforcers are trying to arrest the accused and filing of a murder case with Kotwali PS is underway in this regard, the OC added.
