Livestock Services Fair ends in the city

The two-day Livestock Services Week and Fair - 2024 which was organized to encourage poultry and dairy farmers and ensure the development of the sector ended on April 19 ( Friday).

Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Abdur Rahman was chief guest on the occasion held at the Old Trade Fair (Banijjo Mela) Ground at Sher-e-Banglanagar near Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the city.

Earlier on April 18, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the fair and visited pavilions and stalls including Sadique Agro stalls. It displayed cows of Brahama variety in the fair.

The PM praised Imran Hossain as owner of the Sadeque Agro firm and his activities as president of Bangladesh Dairy Farmers Association (BDFA). He shows how literate persons are nourishing cattle instead of the traditional cowboys.

Imran urged the PM to solve the sectoral problems to increase the development of Brahama variety of cows in the country. The PM assured of her assistances.

With the support of Bangladesh Dairy Farmers Association (BDFA) and Bangladesh Poultry Industries Council (BPIC), the Department of Livestock Services (DLS) under the Fisheries and Livestock Ministry organized the fair.

Along with the central programme, similar fair would be organized at 466 upazilas of 64 districts at a same time. In the central event, animals and birds were displayed at 25 pavilions and 30 stalls in the fairground.

More than 3,000 farmers out of total 55,000 members of the BDFA from Dhaka, Cumilla, Manikganj, Munshiganj, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Bogura, Pabna, Sirajganj, Jashore, Benapole, Kushtia, and Chuadanga, and other districts will join the fair.

Fisheries and Livestock Secretary Mohammad Selim Uddin told media that several hundreds of animals including cow, goat, buffalo, horse, sheep, dumba, goyal, and various birds would be exhibited in 300 stalls in the fair.

Besides, seminar on development of the sector and ramp show of animals would also be arranged in the fair. The participants will be rewarded in 19 categories for their presentation.
