The injured were Md Ismail, 19, and Md Faruk, 37, hailing from Majer Dailpara under Shah Porir Island in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
Of them, Faruk was shifted to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital from Teknaf Upazila Health Complex as condition deteriorated. Faruq suffered bullet wounds to his hands and legs
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) sources said the incident took place around 11am on Sunday in the Naikhondia area in the estuary of Naf river, three kilometres off the shore of Shah Porir Island.
Mohammad Yusuf, one of the fishermen of the fishing trawler, a group of 10 Bangladeshi fishermen went to the river for fishing. They were returning to Shah Porir Island after fishing in the sea near St Martins.
At that point, a Myanmar ship was crossing through the area adjacent to Naikhondia. They opened fire on them, leaving two of his fellow fishermen injured.
Officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station Mohammad Osman Goni said they heard about the firing, and they will investigate the matter.
Meanwhile, amid ongoing conflict between Arakan Army and the armed rebel group, so far, 285 BGP members fled to Bangladesh and they are now under the custody of BGB.
