At least three persons died of heat stroke in Meherpur , Narsingdi and Sylhet on Sunday raising the toll to six.
Heatwave sweeping across the country turned  to very severe in some places.

On Saturday three people died of heatwave in Pabna, Chuadanga and Gazipur.
The very severe heatwave gripped parts of Bangladesh, with maximum temperatures ranging from 40°C to over 42°C in some areas.
Hospitals across the country have been directed to be prepared to tackle health risks associated with ongoing severe heat wave sweeping across the country.

Hospitals have been asked to admit  only patients needing emergency services.

Our correspondent from Narsingdi reports that a youth Safkat Jamil Iban died of  heat stroke while he was taken to the Sadar Hospital. Iban was a clothes store owner and son of Madhabdis Bhogirathpurs Zakaria Jamil.

He was returning from his in-laws house in Narayanganj after enjoying Eid vacation.

Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Sunday said in a bulletin, "Very severe heatwave is sweeping across Pabna, Jashore  and Chuadanga districts and severe heatwave is sweeping in most of the districts in Dhaka, Khulna and Rajshahi divisions."

Meteorologist Shahinul Islam told reporters that the countrys highest temperature of  42.2°C was recorded in Chuadanga on Sunday while  38.2°C temperature recorded in Dhaka at 6pm.

On Saturday, the seasons highest temperature in the capital Dhaka was recorded at 40.4°C and countrys highest temperature was recorded in Jashore at 42.6°C, which was also the seasons highest in the country.

The BMD issued a warning that the heatwave condition will remain unchanged for five days commencing from 9am on Saturday.

Over 42°C temperature is considered as very severe heatwave while between 40-41.9°C is considered as severe and 38-39.9°C is considered as moderate heatwave while 36-37.9°C is conserved as mild heatwave, according to the BMD.

The heatwave condition forced the authorities  to close all schools, madrasas and colleges till April 27.

Some public universities including Dhaka University, Jahangirnagar University, and Jaganntah University also that they will hold classes online during the scorching heat.

The regular bulletin of Met office on Sunday predicted rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds at one or two places in Mymensingh, Sylhet, and Chittagong divisions with hailstorms at isolated places.

The weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy skies elsewhere in the country, it said.

Mild to moderate heatwave is sweeping across Barisal division and parts of Rajshahi division as well as in Mymensingh, Moulvibazar, Feni, Coxs Bazar, Chandpur and Rangamati districts and it may continue, the bulletin added.

Day temperature may rise by (1-2)°C in  Rangpur division and it may remain nearly unchanged elsewhere in the country. Night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged across the country.

Due to increase in moisture incursion, discomfort may persist.

While talking to media at his office on Sunday, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Samanta Lal Sen said all the hospitals across the country had been directed to be prepared to tackle health risks associated with the ongoing severe heatwave sweeping across the country.

Besides, hospitals have been asked to admit only the patients with emergency needs, he said.

Earlier, the minister instructed hospital directors and civil surgeons across the country at a virtual meeting held at the Secretariat to tackle the heatwave risks.

Responding to a question whether there is a possibility to extend the holiday of educational institutions, he said if the severe heat wave continues the holiday would be extended.

Meanwhile, very severe heat wave gripped parts of the country with maximum temperatures ranging from 40 degrees Celsius to over 42 degrees Celsius in some areas.

He said the elderly persons and children are very much vulnerable during the severe heat wave so he urged them to refrain from going out unless necessary and to take precautions.

Our Correspondent from PABNA reports that the temperature is gradually increasing in the Pabna region. Every day the temperature exceeds the previous days record.

The highest temperature of the season was recorded in Pabna on Sunday at 42 degrees Celsius.

As a result, the entire Pabna district is burning due to intense heatwave. This situation has been persisting for several days.
