At least 61 shops were burnt in separate incidents in two districts - Noakhali and Laxmipur, on Sunday.

NOAKHALI: At least 50 shops were gutted by fire that broke out in Begumganj Upazila of the district on Sunday night.
The incident took place at Chowmuhani Bazaar at around 7:45 pm.
Local sources said the fire broke out at a clothing store at the market, and it soon engulfed the adjacent shops, which left at least 50 shops burnt into ashes.

On information, seven units the Fire Service rushed to the scene and brought the blaze under control after three hours of attempts, said Additional Director of Noakhali Fire Service and Civil Defence Department Md Farid Ahmed.

It is assumed that the fire might have originated from an electric short circuit, but the actual reason behind the fire and extend of the damage could be known after investigation, the Fire Service official added.

RAMGATI, LAXMIPUR: At least 11 shops were gutted by fire in Ramgati Upazila of the district early Sunday.
The incident took place in Ramdayal Bazar of the upazila at around 2 am.

Local sources said 11 shops from the zero point of the market to Hafezia Madrasa gate were burnt down. Six shops were also partially damaged at that time. Initially, it seemed that the fire started from an electrical short circuit inside a shop.

Market traders and local residents came forward when they heard the news about the fire from local mosque. Then the fire came under control after one hour with the combined efforts of a unit of the Fire Service.
