The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the selection of 17 cricketers on Tuesday for a three-day camp preceding the upcoming five-match T20 international series against Zimbabwe. Notably, star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and key pacer Mustafizur Rahman were omitted from the squad.

Mustafizur, currently in India for the IPL with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), was initially granted a No Objection Certificate (NOC) until April 30. However, this was later extended by one day to allow him to participate in one additional IPL game before being rested in preparation for the forthcoming T20 World Cup.

In contrast, Shakib has not played a T20 international since July last year against Afghanistan. He sustained a finger injury during the last ODI World Cup in India and subsequently faced eyesight issues, which kept him out of action for an extended period. Despite missing both home and away series against New Zealand, as well as all white-ball matches and a Test against Sri Lanka, he featured in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and is currently in the USA. He is expected to join the squad for the last two matches of the series.

Meanwhile, pace bowling all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin has earned a recall to the national camp after an absence of one and a half years due to injury. He was sidelined during a triangular series in New Zealand in October 2022. Following an extensive rehabilitation process, he made his comeback during the latter stages of the BPL. Alongside showcasing his prowess by claiming 15 wickets for the Fortune Barishal outfit in nine matches, he also contributing 63 runs in the lower order. He has continued his impressive form in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League (DPL), securing 13 wickets while representing Abahani Limited.

Additionally, Parvez Emon, who represented Bangladesh in one T20 international during the Asia Cup last year, has been rewarded with another call-up. He has amassed 585 runs in the DPL to date, including three centuries.

However, Naim Sheikh, Anamul Haque Bijoy and Taijul Islam, who featured in the recent series against Sri Lanka, have been omitted from the squad. Taijul remains sidelined due to a finger injury.

The camp is scheduled to take place from April 26 to 28 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram under the guidance of head coach Chandika Hathurusingha.

The ZACS in Chattogram will host the first three games of the series, while the fourth and fifth matches will be held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. The first two matches are slated for May 3 and 5, starting at 6:00 pm (BST). The third T20i match will begin at 3:00 pm (BST) on May 7. The fourth clash of the series will begin at 6:00 pm on May 10, while the last match of the series will start at 10:00 am on May 12.

Players called up for camp:
Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Liton Das, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Tawhid Hridoy, Mahmudullah, Zaker Ali, Sheikh Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Parvez Hossain Emon, Tanvir Islam, Afif Hossain Dhrubo, Hasan Mahmud, Mohammad Saifuddin and Soumya Sarkar.
