Nine people drown in six districts

Nine people including five minor children drowned in separate incidents in six districts - Chattogram, Kishoreganj, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Narayanganj and Bhola, in three days.
CHATTOGRAM: Two children drowned while bathing in a pond in the districts Chandanaish Upazila on Monday.
The accident happened around noon at Ward No-4 under Chandanaish Municipality.
The deceased were identified as Jannatul Mawa, 9, daughter of Belal Uddin, and Nusrat Jahan Faria, 7, daughter of Jakir Hossain, residents of that area.
According to locals, the two girls went together to take bath in a pond adjacent to their house. When they did not return for a long time, family members started searching for them.
Later, the bodies of Jannatul and Nusrat surfaced in the pond. At that time, locals and family members took them to Chandanaish Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared them dead.
Among the deceased, Jannatul Mawa was a student of Class Three at Harla Samabay Government Primary School and Nusrat was a student of Class One at West Harla Government Primary School.
KISHOREGANJ: An expatriate student drowned after falling into the Meghna River while trying to board a launch in Bhairab Upazlila of the district on Monday.
The incident happened at about 8:30pm at the Bhairab Bazar Launch Terminal.
The deceased was identified as Al Islam, 28, was son of Alauddin, director of the Bhairab Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Islam had gone to Germany for studies on a scholarship about one and a half year back. He came home on vacation a few days before Eid.
Sub-Inspector (SI) of Bhairab River Police Rafiqul Islam confirmed the matter.
Being informed, a police team rushed there and rescued Islam with the help of local divers after 40 minutes, he added.
He was taken to Bhairab Upazila Health Complex where the physicians declared him dead, the SI maintained.
Family members said, Al Islam was going to board a ferry to hang out with his friends by the riverbank. At that time, he slipped and fell into the river.
SYLHET: Two siblings drowned while bath in a pond in Bishwanath Upazila of the district on Sunday afternoon.
The incident took place in Chansirkapan area of the upazila headquarters at around 5 pm.
The deceased were identified as Rihan Ahmed, 10, and his brother Yusuf Ruhan, 11, sons of Siraj Mia, hailed from Barhatta Upazila in Netrakona District.
Quoting the deceaseds family members, police said the family of the duo used to live in a rented house in Chansirkapan area of Bishwanath Upazila Town as their father worked as a day-labourer in the area. At around 5 pm on Sunday, Rihan and Ruhan went to the pond adjacent to their house to take bath and drowned there in absence of the parents.
Later on, the parents started searching for them when they returned homme and did not find the duo in the house. They then found Rihan and Ruhan were floating in the pond.
They both were rescued and taken to Bishwanath Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared them dead.
Being informed, police recovered the bodies and handed those over to the deceaseds family members.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bishwanath Police Station (PS) Roma Prasad Chakrabarty confirmed the incident.
RAJSHAHI: A teenage boy and a young man drowned while bathing in the Padma River in the district on Sunday noon.
The incident took place in Harupur Nabaganga Ghat area under Paba Upazila at around 1 pm.
The deceased were identified as Bappi Hossain, 16, son of Babu Hossain, and Monir Hossain, 20, son of Shahin Hossain. Both of them were residents of Sayergacha area in Rajshahi City. Bappi attended the SSC examinations from Rajshahi Court Academy School while Monir Hossain a Thai mechanic.
Quoting the locals, Rajshahi Fire Service and Civil Defence Senior Station officer Abu Sama said the duo drowned in the Padma river while they along with a group of people went down to the river to take bath at around 1 pm.
On information, a diving team from the station rushed there and recovered their bodies at around 4 pm, the official added.
Rajshahi River PS OC Md Moniruzzaman confirmed the incident, adding that the bodies were sent at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsies and those will be handed over to their families after taking legal actions.
NARAYANGANJ: A teenage boy drowned in a pond while bathing in it along with friends in Bandar Upazila of the district on Saturday.
The incident took place in Hazipur area under the upazila at noon.
The deceased was identified as Ariful Islam, 18, son of Maksud Mia, a resident of Ward No. 20 Sonakanda Panir Tanky area in the upazila.
Local and the deceaseds family sources said Ariful along with his friends was bathing in a pond in the area at noon to get some relief from the scorching heat. At one stage of the bathing, Ariful went missing in the pond.
On information, a team of divers from Bandar Fire Service Station rushed to the scene and rescued him after about two and a half hours of frantic effort. They then took Ariful to Bandar Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
LALMOHAN, BHOLA: A minor child drowned in a pond while bathing in it in Lalmohan Upazila of the district on Saturday noon.
The deceased was identified as Md Fahim, 10, son of Md Farid Biswas, a resident of Ward No. 3 under Kalma Union in the upazila.
Kalma Union Parishad (UP) Member Md Mizan Biswas said Fahim went missing in a pond next to the house while he was bathing in it at noon.
Sensing the matter, the family members conducted a search operation and recovered the body of Fahim from the pond, the UP member added.
Lalmohan PS OC SM Mahbub Ul Alam confirmed the incident.
