Land Minister Narayon Chandra Chanda on Tuesday directed the authorities concerned to take all necessary measures to ensure that the landowners within the Bangladesh Digital Survey (BDS) area are adequately informed about the ongoing survey.
At the progress review meeting of Establishment of Digital Land Management System Project (EDLMS Project) of the Bangladesh Digital Survey (BDS) programme held at Bhumi Bhavan in the capital, the Minister gave this direction.
Among others, Director General of Department of Land Record and Survey (DLRS) Anis Mahmud, Ministrys Additional Secretary (Development) Ziauddin Ahmed, EDLMS Project Director Zahurul Haque and officials of the ministry, DLRS and EDLMS Project were present at the meeting.
Officials of the project partners from South Korea were also present at the meeting.
Narayon Chandra emphasized on resolving the lack of information among landowners during the survey process, so that they can avoid harassment in future.
He noted that this often occurs when the rightful owner is absent during the survey, leading to completion without their knowledge.
Citing past incidents, the minister mentioned instances where landowners, upon selling land for personal reasons, discovered incorrect surveys had been conducted, resulting in the lands Record of Rights (ROR) being issued in someone elses name.
Consequently, legal owners endure years of legal and economic challenges in reclaiming their property rights.
The minister directed the BDS survey officers to campaign about the ongoing survey locally and nationally so that people living in and outside the area can know that the survey.
