2 of a family killed as train hits auto-rickshaw in M’singh

A man and his niece were killed when a moving train hit an auto-rickshaw at Natun Bazaar level crossing in Mymensingh district town on Tuesday night.

The deceased were identified as Abdur Rahman, 60, and Shefali Akter, 40, wife of Rafiqul Islam, both were residents of Barrora village.
The accident occurred near Vidyamoyee School around 10:15 pm when the Dewanganj-bound intercity 'Brahmmaputra Express' train hit a battery-operated auto-rickshaw carrying the two, while passing the Natun Bazar level crossing, leaving them dead on the spot, said Jahangir Alam, officer-in-charge of Mymensingh Government Railway Police (GRP) Station.

According to the victims family members, Abdur Rahman and Shefali went to the district town market for shopping on the occasion of the wedding ceremony of Rahman's nephew.

They met a tragic death while returning to their home by an auto-rickshaw.

On information, police recovered the bodies and sent them to the local hospital morgue for autopsy, said the police official.
