State minister for education Shamsun Nahar has said the decision on extending the existing closure of schools and colleges prompted by ongoing heatwave will be taken on Saturday.
She said that they are not certain about the temperature. There two days off --Friday and Saturday. So after observing the situation the decision will be taken in this regard.
She was talking to reporters at her office in the capital on Thursday.
Responding to a question on alternative plan about taking classes, the state minister said taking classes online could be an alternative way. She also said that students in rural areas are can’t afford it and decision will be taken considering all these things.
Earlier, the schedule to open the schools, colleges, madrasas, and technical education institution across the country after Eid holidays was on April 21.
Due to the ongoing heatwave condition, on April 20, the authorities concerned extended closure of institution until April 27 (Saturday) .
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued a warning that the ongoing heatwave is likely to persist for 72 hours starting Thursday morning.
The BMD cites increased moisture incursion as a factor contributing to the sustained uncomfortable conditions.
