143rd Khulna Day celebrated

KHULNA, Apr 25: The 143rd Khulna Day (Khulna Day-2024) was celebrated here on Thursday through different programmes.

Khulna District came into being on April 25, 1882, by a government gazette notification. It stands on the bank of the Rupsha and Bhairab rivers.

Marking the day, Khulna Unnyan Sangram Samonnay Committee organized a cake-cutting programme at Khulna Press Club.

Chaired by President of Khulna Unnyan Sangram Samonnay Committee Sheikh Ashrafuzzaman, the programme was conducted by Secretary General of the organization Sheikh Mohammad Ali.

Khulna Unnyan Sangram Samonnya Committee has been celebrating Khulna Day since 2009 to recall its historic background, said Sheikh Ashrafuzzaman, president of the Unnyan Committee.

He said, "We have cancelled other programmes including rallies and cultural activities due to scorching heatwave that sweeps over the country."

Among others, Mayor of Khulna City Corporation Talukder Abdul Khaleque was present at the event as the chief guest.
