Cabinet nods LNG, fertiliser, oil, lentil imports of Tk 1,924cr

The Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement has approved an expenditure of Tk 1,923.39 crore for the purchase of lentils, fertilizers, and liquefied natural gas (LNG) through eight proposals.

The approved purchases include lentils worth Tk 61.74 crore, LNG worth Tk 933.94 crore, and fertilizer worth Tk 927.71 crore.

During a meeting held on Thursday in the conference room of the Cabinet Division, the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement approved these eight procurement proposals. Mahmudul Hossain Khan, Secretary of Coordination and Reform at the Cabinet Division, provided this information at the end of the meeting.

The committee approved a proposal for the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) to purchase 6,000 tons of lentils (50 kg bags) at Tk 61.74 crore through a local open tender system. These lentils will be procured from Nabil Naba Foods Products Limited at a price of Tk 102.90 per kg.

In light of a proposal from the Division of Energy and Mineral Resources, the committee approved the import of two cargoes of LNG from the spot market under the Increase in Rapid Supply of Electricity and Fuel (Special Provisions) (Amendment) Act-2021.

The total cost for importing these LNG cargoes from two companies in Singapore will be Tk 933.94 crore. Specifically, one cargo from Singapores Ganvar Private Limited was approved for Tk 469.78 crore, with the price per MMBTU set at US$ 10.86. The previous purchase price per MMBTU was $9.49.

Another cargo from Singapores Vital Asia Private Limited was approved for Tk 464.15 crore, with the price per MMBTU set at $10.73. The previous purchase price per MMBTU was $9.68.

Additionally, based on five separate proposals from the Ministry of Agriculture, the committee approved the import of fertilizer worth Tk 927.71 crore from Russia, China, Saudi Arabia, and Morocco under state-level agreements. This includes 120,000 tonnes of DAP from China and Saudi Arabia, 30,000 tonnes of TSP from Morocco, and 30,000 tonnes of MOP fertilizer from Russia.

The committee approved the import of 40,000 tonnes of DAP fertilizer from Saudi Arabia at a cost of Tk 243.76 crore, priced at $554 per tonne, which was previously $581.

Approval was also given to import 30,000 tonnes of TSP fertilizer from Moroccos OCP SA for Tk 125.23 crore, with the cost of each tonne set at $379.50, reduced from $386.

Furthermore, the committee approved the import of 30,000 tonnes of MOP fertilizer from JSC Foreign Economic Corporation of Russia at Tk 95.61 crore, priced at $289.75 per tonne.

Approval was granted for the import of a total of 80,000 tonnes of DAP fertilizer from Chinas Benyan International Trading Limited through two separate proposals. The price of DAP fertilizer per metric ton was set at $526.25, with the total cost amounting to Tk 463.10 crore.
