Over Tk 10.13cr missing from Agrani Bank vault in Pabna: 3 arrested

Three officials of Kashinathpur branch of Agrani Bank Limited have been arrested over their alleged involvement in embezzling of over Tk 10.13 crore from the bank's vault at Santhia upazila in Pabna district.

The arrested officials are Agrani Bank Limited's Kashinathpur branch manager Harun Bin Salam, principal officer Abu Zafar and cash officer Subrata Chakrabarty.
According to police and Agrani Bank sources, acting on a tip-off, an audit team comprising of five officials from Agrani Bank's Rajshahi divisional and Pabna regional branches made a surprise visit to the Kashinathpur branch around 10:00am on Thursday.

After the day-long audit, they found the irregularities of more than Tk 10.13 crore at the branch.

The audit team then reported the incident to the police. Later, the law enforcers arrested three officials from the Kashinathpur branch after at 7:00pm.


Santhia Police Station officer-in-charge Anwar Hossain said the three bank officials were arrested under Section 54 of the Penal Code. They will be sent to court on Friday and further details would be revealed later on.

The Anti-Corruption Commission will take necessary steps over the incident, he added.

Meanwhile, a police source said among the three arrestees, cash officer Subrata Chakrabarty confessed that he had involved in embezzling the money.

Rezaul Sharif, deputy general manager of the Pabna Regional Office of Agrani Bank Limited, started a lawsuit with Santhia Police Station over the incident.
