The authorities of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) have decided to reopen the institute on May 12.

The authorities took the decision after holding the 152th syndicate meeting of CUET on Friday.
As per the decision, dormitories will remain open for students, and the admission process for new students will begin from April 28.

Earlier on Thursday, the university authorities announced to close all regular activities, including classes and examinations, for an indefinite period, and ordered students to vacate residential halls amid the ongoing student protest over the death of their fellows in fatal road accident.
Following the announcement, agitated students locked the vice chancellor's office and set fire to one of the two buses which they had confiscated.

On the same night, the students called off their protest upon assurances from the university authorities that their major demands would be met.

On April 22, two students -- Shanto Saha and Taufiq Hossain -- of the civil engineering department of the university died and another student Zakaria Himu of the same department injured after a bus of Shah Amanat Paribahan crashed their motorcycle on Chattogram-Kaptai Road in Rangunia of Chattogram,

However, some demonstrating students said they have yet to accept the syndicate's decision.

On Wednesday afternoon, police arrested the bus driver Md Tazul Islam from the Kotwali area of Chattogram city.
