Schools, colleges asked to reopen ignoring heat wave

The countrys all educational institutions except three public universities across the country will open on Sunday (today) amid the severe heat wave. Three public universities - Dhaka University, Jahangirnagar University and Jagannath University - will continue their classes through online.

However, though the primary schools will reopen, the classes of the pre-primary activities will remain closed until further notice, according to the decisions of the government.

A circular issued by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education on Saturday, it was said that all primary schools will reopen on Sunday, the classes of the pre-primary will remain closed.

Earlier on Thursday last, the Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Ministry of Education announced that the educational institutions like secondary schools, colleges, madrassas and technical institutions will reopen from Sunday.

However, it has given some directives to follow during the heat wave for continuing class activities. Same directives and conditions were given for the primary level students.

In a press release of the Mahbubur Rahman Tuhin, public relations officer of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, said that the primary schools will continue their activities including classes from 8:00am to 11:30am every day until further notice.

He said that the schools operating in one shift will run from 8:00am to 11:30am every day while in the schools operating in two shifts, the first shift will be from 8:00am to 9:30am and the second shift will continue  from 9:45am to 11:30am.

According to the directives, the assembly in the schools, colleges and madrassas will remain closed until the heat comes down to a tolerable level.

The decisions to start class activities of the primary schools run by the government and Child Welfare Trust and learning centers of the Bureau of Non-Formal Education have been taken considering the health risks of the children due to the ongoing heat wave.

On Thursday, the Secondary and Higher Education Division gave announcement of reopening countrys educational institutions like secondary schools, colleges, madrassas and technical institutions from April 28, Sunday, amid the ongoing heat wave after a break of around one and half a months.
