PABNA, Apr 28: Railway lines on Friday were bent near Ishwardi Bypass Railway Station in the district due to intense heatwave.
Kapotaksh Express, an intercity train bound for Rajshahi from Khulna, narrowly escaped a major accident. Two more intercity trains left their destination more than an hour late due to the derailment.
Later on, people of the railway office poured water on the railway lines for two hours to bring down the temperature and normalised the bent railway track.
Shubo Hossain, a worker at Ishwardi Bypass Station, said, after Kapotaksha  Train left the Ishwardi Station, the railway lines on which the train was going near Ishwardi Bypass Station seemed to be crooked from a distance; immediately Station Master Taulad Hossain saw the matter and informed it to the Pakshi Divisional Railway officials.
On information, the Divisional Railway Transport Officer, Assistant Engineer and other officials rushed to the spot and arranged to pass the Kapotaksh train through another railway line.
Kapotaksha Express, an intercity train from Khulna to Rajshahi, was on the bent railway lines. Firstly, the train was stopped and pulled back through the railway line near Ishwardi Locode. Then it left after about one hour for Rajshahi through another line.
Station Master of Ishwardi Bypass Station Taulad Hossain confirmed the incident. He said, it looked like the railway lines were bent due to ntense heatwave; at that time, Kapotaksha Express was going to Rajshahi on that route.
After people of the railway office poured water on the railway track to reduce the temperature, the railway track became normal, he added.
Pakshi Divisional Railway Commercial Officer Nasir Uddin said, after hearing the news, Divisional Senior Assistant Engineer Bakia Tullah and other officials went to the spot and made arrangement to go to Rajshahi through another line.
Due to the bending of the railway lines, the inter-city Rupsa Express from Khulna to Chilahati and the Dhumketu Express from Dhaka to Rajshahi left for their destinations after more than an hour.
