A Dhaka court on Monday sentenced Musabbir Rahim, Assistant Vice President and Head of Card Division of City Bank, to 26 years imprisonment in a case filed for embezzling Tk 2.50 crore.
Judge Syed Arafat Hossain of the Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 handed down the verdict and issued an arrest warrant against him as he is absconding.
The court also fined the convict Tk 1.60 lakh, in default, to serve two year more in jail.
According to the case documents, more than Tk 2.5 crore was embezzled from City Bank and its customers through forgery from November 25, 2015 to April 24, 2016.
On August 18, 2016, the vice president of the legal division of the bank's head office, AKM Ayub Ullah filed a case with Banani police station in Dhaka.
On December 31, 2017, Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Assistant Director Monirul Islam pressed charge sheet against Musabbir. On August 25, 2019, the trial began.
