Two children drowned in separate places in Jhalakathi's Rajapur upazila on Monday.
The accident took place in Galua area of the upazila around 12:30 pm and Bamankathi area around 1:30 pm.
The deceased Jamila, 6, the daughter of Abdul Barek, was a resident of Galua area of the upazila, Abdullah, 5, son of Rafiq Howladar, of Bamankathi area.
Child Jamila's uncle Abdus Shukur said Jamila fell into the pond and drowned while she was walking along the bank of the pond. She was later taken to Rajapur Upazila Health Complex where declared dead by doctors.
On the other hand, the family of the deceased Abdullah said that the boy drowned when he went to take a bath in the pond next to the house in the absence of his family. Later, Abdullah's father, Rafiq Hawladar, found him floating in the water of the pond, rescued him and took to the Rajapur Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Rajapur Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Ataur Rahman confirmed it.
